These cozy brown butter apple blondies feature a nutty browned butter flavor, tender apple chunks, and a crisp cinnamon sugar crust, perfect for fall or anytime cozy moments.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (200g) light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 medium apple, peeled and diced (preferably Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
  • Cinnamon sugar crust: 2 tablespoons granulated sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8 inch (20×20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir frequently as it foams and browns, until golden with a nutty aroma (5–7 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, combine browned butter with light brown sugar and granulated sugar. Stir until combined. Add egg and vanilla extract; mix until smooth and glossy.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet mixture gently until no dry streaks remain. Batter should be thick and shiny.
  6. Fold in diced apples evenly throughout the batter.
  7. Spread batter evenly into prepared pan. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar crust mixture generously on top.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until top is golden and a toothpick inserted near center comes out with moist crumbs.
  9. If crust browns too fast, tent loosely with foil halfway through baking.
  10. Cool blondies completely in pan on wire rack (about 15 minutes) before lifting out and slicing.

Notes

Use high-quality vanilla extract for best aroma. Watch butter carefully when browning to avoid burning. For gluten-free option, substitute almond flour but expect denser texture. Tent foil if cinnamon sugar crust browns too quickly. Broil 1-2 minutes at end for extra crispy crust, watching closely.
