A quick and easy snack board for two, featuring warm soft pretzels, tangy mustards, creamy cheese, savory sausage, and crunchy sauerkraut. Perfect for a cozy night in when you need comfort food without the fuss.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large soft pretzels (store-bought or bakery-fresh)
  • 4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese or creamy brie (or Obatzda cheese spread)
  • 1/4 cup whole-grain mustard
  • 1/4 cup spicy brown mustard
  • 4 ounces cooked bratwurst or smoked sausage, sliced into bite-sized rounds
  • 1/2 cup sauerkraut, drained well
  • 1/4 cup cornichons or small pickles
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Coarse sea salt or pretzel salt, for sprinkling
  • Optional garnishes: fresh chives or parsley (chopped), sliced radishes, or apple butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place soft pretzels on a baking sheet and warm for 5-7 minutes until heated through and slightly crisp on the outside. Meanwhile, melt 2 tablespoons butter in a microwave-safe bowl (about 20 seconds).
  2. Remove pretzels from oven and brush generously with melted butter. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. In a small skillet over medium heat, cook sliced bratwurst or sausage for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and heated through. Add drained sauerkraut and cook for another 1-2 minutes to warm through.
  4. Spoon whole-grain mustard and spicy brown mustard into two small bowls or ramekins.
  5. On a wooden board or platter, place the warm pretzels in the center. Arrange mustard bowls, warm sausage and sauerkraut, cornichons, and cheese in small piles around the pretzels.
  6. Garnish with fresh herbs or sliced radishes if desired. Serve immediately while pretzels and sausage are warm.

Notes

Don’t overheat the pretzels—5-7 minutes is ideal. Drain sauerkraut well to avoid a soggy board. Let sausage get a nice brown crust for extra flavor. This board is best enjoyed immediately. For leftovers, store components separately: pretzels wrapped in foil at room temperature, other items in airtight containers in the fridge for 2-3 days. Reheat pretzels in a 350°F oven for 3-5 minutes.
