These incredibly simple cinnamon apple dumplings use just two main ingredients—crescent roll dough and apples—for a quick, cozy fall dessert that comes together in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 2 medium apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (optional, for cinnamon sugar)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for cinnamon sugar)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (optional, for pan)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (optional, for pan)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish or 9-inch pie plate with butter or nonstick spray.
  2. Peel the apples, cut them in half from top to bottom, remove the core, and cut each half into 4 wedges (16 wedges total).
  3. Open the crescent roll dough and separate into 8 triangles along the perforated lines.
  4. Place one apple wedge at the wide end of a crescent triangle. Roll it up, starting from the wide end and tucking the pointy end over the top. Repeat with remaining wedges and dough triangles.
  5. Arrange the wrapped dumplings seam-side down in the greased dish, leaving a little space between each. If using the butter and brown sugar option, melt the butter and stir in the brown sugar, then sprinkle the mixture in the bottom of the dish before adding the dumplings.
  6. If using cinnamon sugar, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle generously over the tops of the dumplings.
  7. Bake for 18-22 minutes, until the dumplings are golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
  8. Let the dumplings cool for about 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a caramel-like sauce, melt 2 tablespoons butter with 2 tablespoons brown sugar in the bottom of the dish before adding dumplings. Let dough come to room temperature for easier handling. Check doneness at 18 minutes to avoid overbaking. For a glaze, whisk 1/2 cup powdered sugar with 1-2 tablespoons milk and drizzle over warm dumplings.
