Ingredients

Scale
  • 4–5 large apples, mixed varieties (Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Fuji)
  • 1 lemon (for brushing apple slices)
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade, such as Marianne’s)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • Pinch of flaky sea salt (such as Maldon)
  • 1/2 cup salted peanuts, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup pecans, toasted and roughly chopped
  • 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips (milk or dark)
  • 1/3 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries or dried cherries
  • 1/4 cup shredded coconut, toasted (optional)
  • 1/2 cup pretzel sticks or mini pretzels
  • 1/2 cup graham crackers, broken into pieces
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup (for drizzling)
  • Fresh mint leaves (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep the apples: Wash and dry all apples. Cut into thin slices (about 1/4 inch thick). Leave the skin on. Brush slices lightly with lemon juice to prevent browning. Arrange in a fan pattern on one side of the board.
  2. Warm the caramel: Pour caramel sauce into a small saucepan over low heat. Add heavy cream and stir constantly until smooth and warm (2-3 minutes). Alternatively, microwave in 15-second bursts, stirring between each. Pour into a small serving bowl and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
  3. Toast the nuts: In a dry skillet over medium heat, toast pecans for 2-3 minutes until fragrant, shaking frequently. Let cool slightly, then roughly chop both pecans and peanuts.
  4. Arrange the board: Place the bowl of warm caramel in the center. Arrange small bowls or piles of chopped peanuts, pecans, mini chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, dried cranberries, and toasted coconut around the caramel. Fill gaps with pretzel sticks and graham cracker pieces.
  5. Add the apples: Nestle apple slices around the bowls, fanning them out. Tuck fresh mint leaves here and there for color.
  6. Final touches: Drizzle honey or maple syrup over apple slices if desired. Serve immediately while caramel is warm.

Notes

Slice apples just before serving for best texture. Keep caramel warm using a candle warmer or shallow dish of hot water. Mix apple varieties for contrast. Don’t skip the salt on caramel. Toast nuts and coconut for more flavor. Prep toppings and bowls the night before to save time.
