These Easy Mummy Jalapeño Popper Bites are a quick and fun Halloween appetizer made with crescent roll dough wrapped around a creamy jalapeño filling. They come together in under 30 minutes and are perfect for parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (low-moisture part-skim recommended)
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 6–8 fresh jalapeños, halved lengthwise and seeded
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (e.g., Pillsbury)
  • 1 large egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • Candy eyes (optional, for decoration)
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing (optional, for dipping)
  • Hot sauce (optional, for extra heat)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prep the jalapeños: Cut each pepper in half lengthwise. Use a small spoon to scrape out the seeds and white membranes. Wash hands immediately after handling.
  3. Make the filling: In a small bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded mozzarella, sour cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  4. Fill the peppers: Spoon about a tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture into each jalapeño half. Do not overfill; keep it level with the top of the pepper.
  5. Prepare the mummy wraps: Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate along perforations into 8 triangles. Using kitchen shears or a sharp knife, cut each triangle lengthwise into 3-4 thin strips.
  6. Wrap the mummies: Take one filled jalapeño half and wrap a dough strip around it, leaving a small gap near the top for eyes. Overlap strips slightly and press ends to seal. Repeat with all peppers.
  7. Apply egg wash: Brush each wrapped mummy with the beaten egg mixture.
  8. Bake: Place mummies on prepared baking sheet, spacing about an inch apart. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until dough is golden brown and filling is bubbly.
  9. Add eyes: Let mummies cool for 2-3 minutes on the baking sheet. Press candy eyes into the exposed filling area. If filling has puffed up, press down gently with a spoon before adding eyes.
  10. Serve warm: Transfer to a platter and serve immediately with ranch dressing or hot sauce on the side.

Notes

Don’t overfill the peppers to avoid sogginess. Work with cold dough for easier handling. Leave a gap for eyes to allow steam to escape. Can be assembled up to 4 hours ahead and refrigerated unbaked. Freeze unbaked mummies for up to 3 months. Reheat in oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes or air fryer at 350°F for 3 minutes.
