Light Apple Cider Sangria: Easy 5-Ingredient Fall Recipe

A crisp, cold, and lightly boozy fall sangria made with fresh apple cider, cinnamon, and sparkling water. This easy 5-ingredient recipe comes together in minutes and is perfect for cozy gatherings or a quiet evening treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (960 ml) apple cider, preferably unfiltered
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sparkling water or seltzer
  • 1 large apple (Honeycrisp or Fuji recommended), thinly sliced
  • 1–2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1–2 tablespoons (15–30 ml) maple syrup, honey, or agave (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash the apple thoroughly. Slice it in half, remove the core, and slice into thin rounds or half-moons about 1/8-inch thick.
  2. Pour the 4 cups of apple cider into a large pitcher or mason jar. Add the cinnamon stick(s). If using a sweetener, add it now and stir until dissolved.
  3. Gently drop the apple slices into the cider. Use a spoon to push them down so they are mostly submerged. For a stronger apple flavor, gently muddle a few slices against the side of the pitcher with the back of a spoon.
  4. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, ideally 2-4 hours, to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. Just before serving, remove the cinnamon stick (or leave it in for a stronger flavor, but remove after 4 hours to avoid bitterness). Pour in the 1 cup of sparkling water or seltzer and stir gently to combine.
  6. Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the sangria over the ice, making sure to include some apple slices in each glass. Garnish with a fresh cinnamon stick or an extra apple slice if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

For best flavor, use unfiltered apple cider. Do not use ground cinnamon as it will make the drink cloudy. The sangria is best enjoyed within 24 hours. For a boozy version, replace sparkling water with dry Prosecco or add a splash of bourbon or rum.
