A spooky and delicious taco dip that comes together in under 15 minutes, featuring sour cream tombstones that add a playful Halloween touch. Perfect for parties and last-minute gatherings.

  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup sliced green onions
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (for tombstones)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Large tortilla chips

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese by letting it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes or microwaving in 10-second bursts until soft.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup sour cream, and taco seasoning. Beat with a hand mixer until smooth.
  3. Spread the refried beans evenly across the bottom of a 9-inch pie plate.
  4. Carefully spread the cream cheese mixture over the refried beans.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded lettuce, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, black olives, and green onions over the cream cheese layer. Press down gently.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the reserved 1/2 cup sour cream with salt and garlic powder. Spoon into a piping bag or zip-top bag with a corner snipped off.
  7. Pipe small rectangle shapes (about 1 inch tall and 1/2 inch wide) onto parchment paper. Use a toothpick to write ‘RIP’ or draw a cross. Freeze for 5 minutes.
  8. Remove tombstones from freezer, gently peel off parchment, and place them on top of the dip, pushing slightly into the cheese layer.
  9. Serve immediately with tortilla chips.

Notes

For best results, keep the sour cream tombstones cold. Freeze them for at least 5 minutes before placing on the dip. If serving outdoors, place the platter on a bed of ice. The dip can be assembled (without tombstones) up to 24 hours in advance.
