Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup whole berry cranberry sauce (canned or homemade)
  • 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 12-count package of sweet Hawaiian rolls (e.g., King’s Hawaiian)
  • 1 pound thinly sliced honey baked ham
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese (or provolone)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds (optional)
  • Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a small bowl, combine ½ cup whole berry cranberry sauce, 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar, ¼ teaspoon black pepper, and a pinch of cayenne pepper (if using). Stir until well combined. Set aside.
  3. Without separating the individual rolls, carefully slice the entire pack of 12 Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally. Place the bottom half of the rolls in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. Spread the cranberry mustard mixture evenly over the bottom half of the rolls.
  5. Layer the thinly sliced honey baked ham over the mustard. Place all 8 slices of Swiss cheese over the ham.
  6. Carefully place the top half of the rolls over the ham and cheese. Press down gently.
  7. In a small bowl, melt 4 tablespoons unsalted butter. Add 1 tablespoon honey, 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon onion powder, and 1 tablespoon poppy seeds (if using). Whisk until smooth.
  8. Brush the butter mixture generously over the tops of the rolls. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
  9. Cover the baking dish loosely with aluminum foil. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 5 to 8 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Remove from the oven and let the sliders rest for about 5 minutes. Cut along the seams of the rolls to separate them. Serve warm.

Notes

For best results, let the sliders rest for 5 minutes after baking to allow the cheese to set. If making ahead, assemble without the butter topping and refrigerate; add topping just before baking. To freeze, assemble completely but do not bake; wrap tightly and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before baking, adding 5-10 minutes to the baking time.
