Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ounces prosciutto, thinly sliced
  • 4 ounces salami, such as Genoa or soppressata, sliced
  • 2 ounces capicola, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 4 ounces brie, at room temperature
  • 4 ounces sharp cheddar, sliced
  • 2 ounces goat cheese, log style
  • 1/4 cup fig jam or honey
  • 1/4 cup cornichons or pickled onions
  • 1/4 cup marinated olives
  • 1/4 cup toasted almonds or walnuts
  • 1/4 cup dried apricots or figs
  • 1 small baguette, sliced and lightly toasted
  • 1 cup assorted crackers
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs (optional garnish)
  • Edible flowers (optional garnish)
  • A few fresh berries (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Ingredients (10 minutes): Take cheeses out of refrigerator. Brie and goat cheese need about 20 minutes at room temperature to soften. Slice baguette into 1/2-inch rounds. Toast lightly in toaster or under broiler for 2-3 minutes until just golden. Set aside.
  2. Arrange the Cheeses (5 minutes): Place brie, cheddar, and goat cheese on the board, spacing them out evenly. Cut a few slices of cheddar in advance. Leave brie whole so people can cut their own portions.
  3. Add the Meats (5 minutes): Fold or roll prosciutto slices into loose ribbons. Place salami slices flat or folded in half. Drape capicola loosely. Place piles around the cheeses, creating visual contrast.
  4. Fill the Bowls (3 minutes): Spoon fig jam into a small ramekin. Place olives in another bowl, and cornichons or pickled onions in a third. Arrange bowls on the board, tucking them between cheese and meat piles.
  5. Add the Crunchy and Sweet Elements (5 minutes): Scatter toasted almonds or walnuts in small clusters. Add dried apricots or figs in another spot. Place toasted baguette slices and crackers in a neat stack or fan shape on one side.
  6. Garnish and Adjust (5 minutes): Tuck fresh rosemary sprigs between cheese and meats. If using fresh berries, scatter a few strategically. Fill any empty gaps with extra crackers or almonds.
  7. Serve Immediately: Place board in center of table or coffee table. Serve with two plates and two wine glasses.

Notes

For best results, let cheeses come to room temperature for 20 minutes before serving. Keep crackers away from wet ingredients to prevent sogginess. This board is best enjoyed immediately. Leftovers can be stored separately in airtight containers for 2-3 days.
